Improved visualization of X-ray phase contrast volumetric data through artifact-free integrated differential images

چکیده

Artifacts arising when differential phase images are integrated is a common problem to several X-ray phase-based experimental techniques. The combination of noise and insufficient sampling the high-frequency signal leads formation streak artifacts in projections, translating into poor image quality tomography slices. In this work, we apply non-iterative integration algorithm proven reduce planar (2D) scan. We report on how reduction projections improves slices, especially directions different from reconstruction plane. Importantly, method compatible with large datasets terms computation time.

Fast iterative reconstruction of differential phase contrast X-ray tomograms.

Differential phase-contrast is a recent technique in the context of X-ray imaging. In order to reduce the specimen's exposure time, we propose a new iterative algorithm that can achieve the same quality as FBP-type methods, while using substantially fewer angular views. Our approach is based on 1) a novel spline-based discretization of the forward model and 2) an iterative reconstruction algori...

Alignment of low-dose X-ray fluorescence tomography images using differential phase contrast.

X-ray fluorescence nanotomography provides unprecedented sensitivity for studies of trace metal distributions in whole biological cells. Dose fractionation, in which one acquires very low dose individual projections and then obtains high statistics reconstructions as signal from a voxel is brought together (Hegerl & Hoppe, 1976), requires accurate alignment of these individual projections so as...

Noninterferometric phase-contrast images obtained with incoherent x-ray sources.

We report on what are believed to be the first full-scale images obtained with the coded aperture concept, which uses conventional x-ray sources without the need to collimate/aperture their output. We discuss the differences in the underpinning physical principles with respect to other methods, and explain why these might lead to a more efficient use of the source. In particular, we discuss how...

Image fusion in x-ray differential phase-contrast imaging

Phase-contrast imaging is a novel modality in the field of medical X-ray imaging. The pioneer method is the grating-based interferometry which has no special requirements to the X-ray source and object size. Furthermore, it provides three different types of information of an investigated object simultaneously – absorption, differential phase-contrast and dark-field images. Differential phase-co...

Curvelet sparse regularization for differential phase-contrast X-ray imaging

Differential phase contrast imaging (DPCI) enables the visualization of soft tissue contrast using X-rays. In this work we introduce a reconstruction framework based on curvelet expansion and sparse regularization for DPCI. We will show that curvelets provide a suitable data representation for DPCI reconstruction that allows preservation of edges as well as an exact analytic representation of t...
